Progress on closing the gender wage gap slowed dramatically in the last decade, and that&#8217;s due to two reasons.
Number one, women are increasingly going into male dominated fields that have
higher pay gaps to begin with.
And number two, there has been a widening in the gender pay gap for very top tier management positions.
We are seeing some encouraging developments beneath the surface.
Women are increasingly getting university degrees in fields that are associated with higher paying jobs, and the expansion of subsidized daycare is also getting more women into the workforce sooner after having children, which will be necessary for women to share in these pay gains at the top end of the income spectrum.
